Field-dependent magnetic anisotropy of some mixed garnets with light rare earths
- 1. Univ. of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia
Description
Magnetocrystalline anisotropy and magnetization were measured in mixed garnet single crystals with compositions Y/sub 3-x/R/ sub x/M/sub y/Fe/sub 5-y/O12 (R is Nd or Sm, x from 0 to 2; M is Al or Sc, y from 0 to 1). It was found that the anisotropy and magnetization of the crystals containing Nd, Sm, and/or Sc are significantly field dependent. Results are qualitatively explained in terms of the lattice effect on the Nd and Sm magnetic moment and the moment canting due to additions of Sc. (auth)
