The status of contractors workers operating in US nuclear power plants

Description

The status of contractors operating in PWRs in the United States is described. The statistics concerning the trends of both the individual and collective exposures of these workers were analysed as well as their main demographic and sociological features. The data relative to the particular group of ''transient'' workers, i.e. those operating in several different power plants during the same year were also examined. The results presented show that the dosimetric and sociological profiles of contractors' workers, in US power plants, do not differ fundamentally from that of permanent workers

Abstract (French)

Cet article decrit la situation des travailleurs des entreprises exterieures intervenant dans les centrales a eau pressurisee aux Etats-Unis. Les statistiques analysees concernent l'evolution de l'exposition individuelle et collective de ces travailleurs ainsi que leurs principales caracteristiques demographiques et sociologiques. Les donnees relatives au groupe particulier des travailleurs dits ''itinerants'', c'est-a-dire ceux intervenant dans plusieurs centrales differentes au cours d'une meme annee, sont egalement examinees. Les resultats presentes montrent que le profil dosimetrique dans les centrales americaines, ne differe pas fondamentalement de celui des travailleurs permanents
