Description
A new sensitive oxidation-reduction indicator of Vanadate-Auric Reagent II(VAR-II) has been synthesized by the author. In acidic aqueous solution VAR-II can be oxidized by V(V), Au(III), Ce(IV), Cr(VI) and Mn(VII) ions to violet colour with sensitivity of about 10-15 g vanadate/ml. The indicator has been applied successfully to the ammonium vanadate titrimetric method for the determination of uranium of 10%-0.0000001% in minerals and rocks and of 0.3-5000000 ng/L in rain, natural and sea waters. The detection limit is 0.6 pg/ml and the relative standard deviation for five determinations of 0.005 ng U 6.2%
