Testing QCD in hadronic processes

  • 1. DAMTP, University of Cambridge, Cambridge

Description

As in the case of elastic scattering, comparison between theory and experiment has some encouraging features. There is a real hope that the high energy available at the SPS Collider will make much cleaner tests of QCD, but at present we are very far from firmly establishing that QCD can correctly describe purely hadronic reactions. Further theoretical work needs to be done, in particular the analysis of final-state interactions and K-factors has not been done properly for purely hadronic processes. As is true also for semileptonic processes, the problem of renormalisation-scheme dependence is a very real one
