Personal dosimetry with DIS: experience at PSI

An innovative passive electronic dosemeter for photon and beta radiations has been made commercially available by RADOS: the DIS-1 dosemeter based on the so-called ''Direct Ion Storage''. The DIS-1 dosemeter has been used for one year as an experimental system at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI). After an inspection by an external expert, the DIS-1 dosemeter has been qualified by the authority to be conforming to the requirements of the Swiss Dosimetry Ordinance for personal photon and beta dosemeters. It is now used as a legally approved personal dosemeter system at PSI. At PSI the system is only used on small scale level auxilary to the TLD dosemeters for occupationally exposed workers. The experience with the novel possibilities of data acquisition and data handling are very promising. Already two participations in the swiss intercomparison for legally approved personal dosimetry services were possible. The results are confirming the excellent properties and characteristics of the DIS-1 dosemeters. (orig.)
