Natural radioactivity content of fertilizers and farm soils in Qena governorate

  • 1. Phys. Dept., Faculty of Science Qena. South Valley University, (Egypt)

Description

Samples of fertilizers and farm soils were collected to a depth of up to 30 cm over Qena governorate. Concentration of background radionuclides 226Ra, 232Th and 40K in these samples were determined by gamma ray spectrometry with an HPGe detector setup and 8192 channels MCA. The results show that these nuclides were found in concentration of 365.7±39.5 , 66.7± 28 and 4±2.6(Bq/kg) for fertilizers and 12.5±3.3, 11.7±2.5 and 1688 ±296(Bq/kg) for soils, respectively. Radium equivalent activity (Raeq)and activity level in all samples were calculated. The data are discussed and compared with those given in the literature
