Process and plant for manipulating radioactive waste
Description
To prepare waste for engineered storage, it is vitrified or calcined (pelleted) into solid pieces in a hot cell. Subsequently the pieces are filled into a radiation protection container made of spherulite cast iron, in which there is a liquid metal. The pieces are embedded in this metal matrix. During the embedding process, the radiation protection container may be heated externally or internally (lost heat device). (DG)

Zur Vorbereitung der Abfaelle fuer ein engineered storage werden diese in einer heissen Zelle stueckig verglast oder kalziniert (Pelletierung). Anschliessend erfolgt ein Einfuellen der Stuecke in einen Strahlenschutzbehaelter aus sphaerolithischem Gusseisen, in dem sich ein fluessiges Metall befindet. Die Stuecke werden in diese Metallmatrix eingebettet. Waehrend des Einbettvorgangs kann der Strahlenschutzbehaelter von ausserhalb oder innerhalb (verlorene Heizeinrichtung) beheizt werden. (DG)Files
