Applications of Hadamard transform to beam spectroscopy

Description

A new beam spectroscopic technique by means of an Hadamard transform has been developed. This technique, Hadamard beam spectroscopy, has many of advantages over a conventional point-by-point measurement or a simultaneous measuring scheme with an array of detectors. In the present method, the spectra to be measured are encoded into N spectral elements, instead of directly measuring the spectra, by the use of a mathematically designed N-slot mask based on the Hadamard matrix. Reconstructions of spectra from these encoded data are easily performed by an inverse Hadamard transform which is very simple and straightforward due to the features of Hadamard matrix. Performance parameters convenient for an actual beam experiment have been investigated by computer simulations. Preliminary experiments show the usefulness and feasibility of this technique for studies of mass as well as energy analyses. (Auth.)
