Creation and improvement of the thermoelectric generator modules for space NPP

Description

Methods of improving components of a high-temperature silicon-germanium thermoelectric module with radial-circular geometry of thermal elements to be used within space nuclear energy facilities with specific thermal flows of 30-70 W/Cm2 and temperature ∼ 1200 K are presented. Certain basic elements of the structure, such as electric insulation unit and thermal junction damping stresses, were developed. Reasons for loss of thermoelectric efficiency in the previously developed thermoelectric modules made silicon-germanium alloy are analyzed. Processes giving rise to thermoelectric modules degrading and determining their service life are revealed. Preliminary experiments suggested feasibility of all enumerated ways to decrease loss and to improve stability of the silicon-germanium thermoelectric modules
