Implantation of the method of quantitative analysis by proton induced X-ray analysis and application to the analysis of aerosols

Description

Fundamental aspects for the implementation of the method of quantitative analysis by proton induced X-ray spectroscopy are discussed. The calibration of the system was made by determining a response coefficient for selected elements, both by irradiating known amounts of these elements as well as by the use of theoretical and experimental parameters. The results obtained by these two methods agree within 5% for the analysed elements. A computer based technique of spectrum decomposition was developed to facilitate routine analysis. Finally, aerosol samples were measured as an example of a possible application of the method, and the results are discussed. (Author)

Abstract (Portuguese)

Discutem-se aspectos fundamentais para a implantacao do metodo de analise quantitativa por raios-X induzidos por protons. A calibracao do sistema foi realizada pela determinacao dos coeficientes de resposta de diversos elementos, tanto atraves da irradiacao de massas conhecidas, quanto por meio da utilizacao de parametros teoricos e experimentais. Os resultados obtidos pelos dois metodos diferem de cerca de 5% para os elementos analisados. Uma tecnica de decomposicao de espectros com auxilio de computador foi desenvolvida para facilitar analises de rotina. Finalmente como exemplo de aplicacao do metodo, foram realizadas medidas de aerossois e os resultados sao discutidos. (Autor)
