Applications of isotopic measurement techniques in the automobile industry
Description
A review is given on the most important applications of the isotope measuring technique in the automobile industry. Amongst these are aero-dynamic measurements with krypton 85 to control the ventilation number in the passenger seats, labelling of motor oils with tritium to test the oil consumption as well as the radioactivation of surface layers of certain tools which are subjected to heavy wear in operation. Particularly in the latter case, the isotope technique proves to be indispensable due to its great sensitivity. A symmetrical activation of a very thin surface layer is a precondition for the method which can be checked by autoradiographic images. (ORU/LH)

Es wird eine Uebersicht ueber die wichtigsten Anwendungen der Isotopenmesstechnik in der Automobilindustrie gegeben. Dazu zaehlen lufttechnische Messungen mit Krypton 85 zur Ueberpruefung der Luftwechselzahl in Fahrgastraeumen, Markierungen von Motoroelen mit Tritium zur Ueberpruefung des Oelverbrauchs sowie die Radioaktivierung von Oberflaechenschichten bestimmter Werkstuecke, die starkem Abrieb im Betrieb unterliegen. Insbesondere im letzteren Fall zeigt sich die Isotopentechnik wegen der enormen Empfindlichkeit als unentbehrliches Helfsmittel. Vorraussetung fuer das Verfahren ist eine gleichfoermige Aktivierung einer sehr duennen Oberflaechenschicht, die durch autoradiographische Aufnahmen ueberprueft werden kann. (ORU)
