The oxide fuel shearing system for THORP
Description
For the new Thermal Oxide Reprocessing Plant (THORP) under construction at Sellafield, BNFL has adopted the conventional bulk shear/batch dissolver head end process. The shear has a design throughput of 7te/day of water-cooled or gas-cooled reactor fuel. The design emphasis has been on high availability, flexibility to cope with the diverse feedstock and low radiation dose to the operators. This paper describes these and other aspects of the Oxide Fuel Shearing System
