Description

The Karoo volcanics, on palaeontological evidence, are Upper Triassic-Lower Jurassic in age. Within this age range the predominant basalts and dolerites are most readily amenable to K-Ar dating but the felsic rocks, and to a lesser extent even the mafic rocks, can also be dated by the Rb-Sr isochron method. This paper concerns the application of the Rb-Sr method to the Lebombo volcanics, characterised by abundant rhyolites and granophyres
