Overview of the Collaborative Project RISC: Review of Innovative Reactor concepts for Prevention of Severe Accidents and Mitigation of their Consequences
Description
Rationale and Objective of RISC: • Rationale: – Ensuring safety under normal, DBA, and DEC are key requirements for the development of nuclear power. – INPRO methodology (safety area) requires that 'a major release of radioactivity should be prevented for all practical purposes.' – In particular, innovative nuclear energy system would not need relocation or evacuation measures outside the plant site. – Satisfying this requirement is crucial not only for public acceptance but also for the sustainability of nuclear energy. • Objective: – Demonstrate that the evolution of safety requirements and related technical and institutional innovations in nuclear technologies provide continued progress to meet this INPRO requirement.
