Fast neutron irradiation of carbon carbon composites

Description
Fast neutron irradiation studies on carbon-carbon composites at exposures of 1017-1019 n/cm2 (E approximately 1 MeV) and different temperatures are reported. After the exposures used to date, strength, modulus and interlaminar bonding increased, while fracture energy decreased. Structural studies show increase in dsub(c)-spacing and decrease in crystallite size with increasing irradiation exposure. (orig.)

Es wird ueber Bestrahlungsversuche mit schnellen Neutronen an Kohlenstoff-Kohlenstoff-Verbundwerkstoffen bei 1017-1019 n/cm2 (E ungefaehr 1 MeV) und unterschiedlichen Temperaturen berichtet. Nach den Versuchsbestrahlungen nahmen Festigkeit, Elastizitaetsmodul und interlaminare Bindung zu, waehrend die Bruchenergie abnahm. Strukturuntersuchungen zeigen mit wachsender Strahlendosis eine Zunahme des dsub(c)-Abstandes und eine Abnahme der Kristallitgroesse. (orig.)Additional details
