Magnet spectrometer for the IUCF cooler

  • 1. Indiana Univ. Cyclotron Facility, Bloomington, IN (United States)

Description

A Chicane/Spectrometer system has been proposed for the IUCF Cooler Spectrometer. The system is designed to meet the special requirements of Cooler internal target experiments at very small angles. This goal is achieved with a three magnet chicane with variable chicane angle 0 -24 which will be installed in a straight section of the Cooler storage ring. For medium resolution momentum analysis a quadrupole/dipole system with an optical septum magnet is installed behind chicane magnet 2. While reaction products with rigidities close to the beam rigidity can be analyzed at angles down to 3 , those with up to 53% of beam rigidity can be analyzed down to 0 . We will present the modes, ion optics, layout and design properties of the system. (orig.)
