Lethal effect of X-rays on penguin fish varieties, Poecilia reticulata Peters and Brachydanio rerio (Hamilton-Buchanan)
Description
A study was made of a single effect of X-radiation on two penguin fish varieties (Poecilia reticulata and Brachydanio rerio). The comparison of the design data with empirical ones, using χ2 as a criterion, has demonstrated their good concordance in all studied fish groups. The average values of LD50/30 are from 18.844 to 23.848 Gy. These values are lower for females of both varieties. A larger dispersion of tolerance distributions in B. rerio, as compared to P. reticulata, is indicative of a higher variability in their individual X-radiation sensitivity. The genetic basis for different radiosensitivity is suggested
