The lithium-lithium hydride process for the production of hydrogen: comparison of two concepts for 950 and 1300 deg C HTR helium outlet temperature

Description
The lithium-lithium hydride process serves to generate hydrogen from water efficiently, using the high temperature heat of a nuclear reactor. Thermodynamic analyses show that hydrogen can be produced with an overall thermal efficiency of 48% at conventional HTR outlet temperatures of 9500C. Assuming helium heat of 13000C, 56% overall thermal efficiency can be achieved. (author)
