Description
Recently, the long-term operation of nuclear power plant beyond its licensed term has become a worldwide trend. For the license approval of the long-term operation, regulatory requirements in general include periodic safety review, aging management programs with time limited aging analysis and the statement of radiological impact on environments. This paper presents the results of periodic safety review and assessment of aging management on Kori Unit 1, the oldest PWR in Korea. In the periodic safety review, 11 safety factors were assessed. In the assessment of aging management, aging management programs were reviewed with the time-limited aging analyses provided. Third party peer review on the safety review report was also done by IAEA expert team. Base on all the results of the technical evaluation activities, Kori Unit 1 was approved to operate for an additional 10 years beyond its original design life of 30 years. (author)
