Synthesis and physicochemical properties of U(5) pyrosulfate

Description
Interaction of anhydrous β-UO2SO4 and UO2SO4xH2O with pyridine has been investigated. It is shown that simultaneously with addition of pyridne water molecule in monohydrate is subjected to intramolecular dissociation with the formation of pyridinium hydroxosulfatouranylate PyH[UO2SO4(OH)]. In case of β-UO2SO4 the reaction takes place at increased temperatures in soldered ampoules. The product is green, it has a strong narrow ESR signal with -factor of ∼2.0. Thermal decomposition of the products is accompanied by the removal of SO3 at temperatures exceeding 400. The compound easily looses pyridine, the formula (UO2)2S2O7x(0.5-0.2)C5H5N is assigned to it. Mechanism of charge transfer during U(5) formation is discussed
