The Hanford grout treatment facility
Description
The paper describes the handling of low-activity radioactive/hazardous wastes at the Hanford grout treatment facility. The waste is being retrieved from underground single-walled tanks as part of environmental restoration efforts at the Hanford Reservation. Grout disposal issues include: role of barriers in waste disposal and time of compliance for ecosystem protection. Non-hazardous wastes from the campaign were successfully completed in 1989. Current status and plans for completion of the solidification of radioactive/hazardous wastes to meet Resource Conservation and Recovery Act landfill requirements are presented
