Environmental isotopes, radioactive tracers and hydrochemistry for studying ground water at Tripoli area, Libya
Description
The objectives of applying a double rotor neutron monochromator system for studying the dynamics of solids and liquids, are assessed for the use at the ET-RR-1 reactor (2 MW research reactor). The system consists of two rotors spinning, at maximum speed 16000 rpm with a constant phase angle relative to each other, producing bursts of monochromatic neutrons at the sample. Each of the rotors, 32 cm in diameter, has two slits to produce two bursts of monochromatic neutrons per revolution. The slits are with radius of curvature 65.6 cm and 7 x 10 mm2 cross-sectional area. The burst time t and wavelength resolution Δ lambda/lambda, for this double rotor system, at rotation rate 16000 rpm and 2 meters distance between the rotors, will be 26 μsec and 2% respectively for 1.8 A incident neutrons, the intensity at the sample will be 2 x 104 n/cm2.sec.
