Experimental investigations on load reduction in the pressure suppression system of boiling water reactors

Description
For the load specification of pressure suppression systems in boiling water reactors the periodic pressure pulses from a condensation phenomenon, called chugging, are of great importance. The research indicates, that the chugging mechanism is mainly induced by the BORDA-effect at the sharp edge of the vent pipe outlet. Based on these insights, simple vent pipe outlet mitigators are developed and tested, which effect in a passive mode a significant reduction of the dynamic pressure pulses from this condensation phenomenon. The results also yield the proof of multivent effect, of time window for single chugging event occurrence at a multivent configuration and the assurance of the reproducibility of this dynamic condensation phase. Fuer die Belastungsspezifikation des Druckabbausystems von Siedewasserreaktoren sind die periodischen Druckstoesse aus einem Kondensationsphaenomen von grosser Bedeutung. Die Untersuchungen zeigen, dass am Entstehungsmechanismus dieses Phaenomens massgeblich der BORDA-Effekt an der scharfkantigen Kondensationsrohrmuendung beteiligt ist. Auf der Grundlage dieser Erkenntnisse werden einfache Rohrmuendungsalternativen entwickelt, die als passive Massnahmen in der Erprobung eine deutliche Minderung der dynamischen Druckstoesse aus diesem Kondensationsphaenomen bewirken. Die Ergebnisse liefern ferner den Nachweis des Mehrrohreffektes und des Zeitfensters fuer das Einsetzen einzelner Kondensationsereignisse am Mehrrohrverband sowie die Absicherung der Reproduzierbarkeit dieser dynamischen Kondensationsphase.
