Cattenom nuclear power plant: Main features, method of construction and initial operating experience with unit 1
Description
Cattenom nuclear power plant comprises four units with 1300 MW each and with standard type pressurized water reactors. Cattenom No. 1 ist the 42nd reactor of the French pressurized water reactor series, which Electricite de France has put into operation and the 9th unit of the 1300 MW capacity range. The 'convoy' method of construction was particularly well-suited to maintaining the programme. However, a number of peculiarities exist between Cattenom and previous units. Erection, testing and commissioning (totalling four years) were undertaken very satisfactorily due to the close co-operation between EdF and the participating companies. Since synchronizing to the system, only very slight and rapid disconnections which were not foreseen have been registered. This is a very good result for the commissioning phase of a nuclear power plant. (orig.)

Das Kernkraftwerk Cattenom umfasst 4 Bloecke zu je 1300 MW mit standardisierten Druckwasserreaktoren. Cattenom 1 ist der 42. Reaktor des franzoesischen DWR-Parks, der von EdF in Betrieb genommen wurde, und der 9. Block der Leistungsstufe 1300 MW. Die Konvoi-Bauweise war zur Einhaltung der Termine besonders gut geeignet. Es existieren jedoch einige Besonderheiten zwischen Cattenom und den vorhergehenden Bloecken. Montage, Tests und Inbetriebnahme (insgesamt 4 Jahre) waren sehr befriedigend verlaufen aufgrund der guten Zusammenarbeit zwischen EdF und den beteiligten Firmen. Seit der Netzkopplung sind nur wenige Schnellabschaltungen registriert worden, die nicht vorgesehen waren. Das ist fuer die Inbetriebnahmephase eines Kernkraftwerkes ein sehr gutes Ergebnis.
