Distributed microprocessor automation network for synthesizing radiotracers used in positron emission tomography
Description
This presentation describes the engineering concepts underlying an evolving distributed microprocessor network for automating the routine production synthesis of radiotracers used in Positron Emission Tomography brain studies. First a brief overview of the PET method for measuring biological function is presented, and then the general procedure for producing a radiotracer is outlined. The major problems which were encountered in carrying out the syntheses manually are defined. Next, a description of the distributed microprocessor network architecture chosen and the rationale for that choice is given. (Auth.)
