This article is the fourth part of a series on the safety in atomic energy installations which commenced in the 3rd Nov. 1977 issue of this Journal due to the initiative of the technical group of engineers in the Swiss atomic energy industry. After stating the safety problems arising from atomic energy installations and describing architectural and plant layout in the framework of our knowledge and safety techniques, this article goes on to consider allowed procedures and official procedures for the maintenance of safety in the interest of the public.
