The first cadmium rare earth borates CdLn[B5O10] with Ln=La, Sm, Eu
Description
Single crystals of the new compounds CdLn[B5O10] (Ln = La3+, Sm3+, Eu3+) were obtained in silver ampoules at 1073 K by using a B2O3 flux technique. The compounds are isotypic with CoSm[B5O10] and contain two-dimensional infinite [B5O10]5- ion chains. Three of five B sites are tetrahedrally coordinated. Cd2+ occupies distorted CdO6 polyhedra while Ln3+ is tenfold coordinated by O atoms. (orig.)
