Single narrow γ-ray detecting U3Si2-Al nuclear fuel element U3Si2 uniformity

Description

In order to improve the reliability of detection results, paper establishes a single narrow γ-ray method for detecting the U3Si2 uniformity of U3Si2-Al nuclear fuel element. The 59.5 keV γ-ray radiated by 241Am is used for detection. The method uses γ-ray detector to detect the γ-ray intensity before and after transmitted the fuel element, and then establishes equations based on γ-ray attenuation formula and the characteristics of U3Si2 and Al total volume constant. The volume fraction of U3Si2 and Al can be got by solving the equations, simultaneously. Paper verifies the method by MCNP simulation and experiment, the verification results showed that the relative accuracy of the method is better than 3.99%. The success investigation of this new method, provide a new idea for nuclear material uniformity detection of fuel element. (authors)
