Parametric properties of plasma produced by a powerful microwave beam

  • 1. RAN, Inst. Obshchej Fiziki, Moscow (Russian Federation)

Description

The experiment with plasma produced by a beam of powerful pulse microwave radiation near the surface of a dielectric located in vacuum show that plasma formation ('microwave torch') features paramagnetic properties and enhances externally applied axial magnetic field. The observed phenomenon is considered to be a result of nonlinear interaction of a powerful magnetic wave with 'supercritical' plasma produced by this wave in the 'resonance' region of the latter. 8 refs., 5 figs
