Who needs nuclear power

A brief, illustrated analysis shows the way in which the average British household uses energy. The sources of energy are outlined. The possibility of getting enough energy from 'renewable' sources, such as solar energy, waves, tides and the wind is considered. Future trends are discussed, with diagrams of (a) U.K. energy consumption indices; (b) world energy supply and demand; (c) energy consumption per capita (world wide) in tonnes of coal equivalent. Resources of uranium are discussed. Health and safety, and risks involved in the use of nuclear power, are discussed in the context of other risks accepted by the public.
