Benefits of chemically enhanced pressure pulse cleaning

  • 1. Westinghouse Electric Corp., Pittsburgh, PA (United States). Nuclear Services Div.

Description

It is desirable to remove deposits that build up on the secondary side of steam generators to control the concentration of contaminants that cause tube corrosion and to prevent fouling that can reduce the thermal efficiency of the tubes. Westinghouse has developed and demonstrated a deposit removal process that combines both chemical and mechanical cleaning operations. Specifically, the process combines the existing Westinghouse Pressure Pulse Cleaning (PPC) process with EPRI/SGOG solvents that are modified to reduce corrosion effects, increase solvent cleaning efficiency and minimize waste volumes. The Chemically Enhanced Pressure Pulse Cleaning (PP/CC) process may be recommended for both remedial and preventative maintenance due to its cleaning efficiency and low corrosion.
