Application of the ion exchange technique in the molybdenum-99 purification process

  • 1. Instituto de Pesquisas Energeticas e Nucleares (IPEN), Sao Paulo, SP (Brazil)

Description

Available as short communication only. Chromatographic columns containing the anionic resin AG1-X 8 (50-100 mesh) were utilized in this first Mo-99 purification step. The Mo/Tc. Te. Ba and Zr trace solutions percolated the resin. The adsorption and elution percentage of Mo and of these other radioactive nuclides in the column were determined. Only the Mo/Tc was retained and subsequently 98% was eluted from the column. The conclusion was that this ionic exchange technique is appropriated for the chemical separation of Mo from the cited contaminates. (author). 3 refs, 1 fig
