Gamma-relay devices in a converter gas-cleaning system
Description
Waste gases from converter steelmaking are cleaned by passing them through a waste-heat boiler followed by passage through a cleaning system comprised of two stages of water sprays and two sludge collectors. The Dneprodzerzhinsk combine uses gamma-relay devices to continuously monitor the sludge level in the collectors. Two such devices, one for signaling and the other serving as a backup, are installed on each collector and use a single gamma-ray source. Introduction of the devices on the sludge collectors eliminated converter idling due to sludge accumulation and significantly reduced atmospheric pollution
