Description

The study area for geotechnical investigations for power transmission lines is generally relatively large. The transmission line corridor can cover both rural and urban areas with a wide range of topographic features. Consequently, the requirements for environmental considerations are quite significant, as the transmission corridor can traverse environmentally sensitive areas, wetlands, and watercourses which are known for high potential uses as fisheries and recreational resources, as well as agricultural lands. A review is presented of the environmental study approach utilized for a geotechnical investigation conducted for the Lennox-Bowmanville (Ontario) second 500-kV transmission line project. The development of all of the field components involved in this project includes significant inputs from environmental studies which were required to minimize impact on the environment. 7 refs., 3 figs., 2 tabs
