Description
It is shown that the global vortex in (2+1) dimensional anti-de sitter spacetime constitutes a charged BTZ black hole when the magnitude of the cosmological constant at a given symmetry breaking scale is smaller than the critical value. The connection between the topological charge of the neutral global vortex and the electric charge of the black hole is clearly provided in terms of the duality in (2+1) dimensions.
