Recent Developments for Experiments in the MIT-Bates South Hall Ring

Description
A program is underway at MIT-Bates to study nucleons and light nuclei using the recently installed Bates Large Acceptance Spectrometer Toroid (BLAST). These experiments are being carried out with polarized electron beams stored in the South Hall Ring (SHR) and polarized internal targets. Recent developments at the facility, including an upgrade of the polarized injector and the commissioning of a laser back-scattering polarimeter, permitted intense polarized electron beams to be reliably delivered at 850 MeV for initial tests of the BLAST Spectrometer and its detectors. In this paper, overviews of the SHR beam and BLAST are given, including selected results from the commissioning run
