Measurement of nitrification by 15N in the sediment of Lake Balaton

Description
Sediment and water samples from the reeds and the next open water surface at Keszthely were incubated in two experimental arrangements. 15N-labelling was used for the direct measurement of nitrification for the first time in Hungary. Nitrification follows as a rule the change in ammonia content. The process is more intense in the reeds than in water. (author) 32 refs.; 3 figs
