Transmission-electron-microscopy studies of displacement cascades in Cu3Au
Description
The method described by Jenkins, Wilkens and Katerbau (Phil. Mag.; 34: 1141 (1976)) for the direct observation of displacement cascades in ordered alloys is used to extend the results of Jenkins and Wilkens (Phil. Mag.; 34: 1155 (1976)) on Cu+-ion bombardment of Cu3Au to the energy range 100-200 keV. The trend noted by Jenkins and Wilkens for the sizes of the cascades at incident ion energies E >= 50 keV to be below the theoretical curve is confirmed. The directions along which intrusions and sub-cascades lay were studied, but no crystallographic relationship was found. Results are interpreted qualitatively in terms of disordering occurring in regions of high deposited energy density. (author)
