Description
Based on extracting electrochemically the second phase particles Zr(Fe, Cr)2 from Zircaloy-4 and analyzing the mass concentration in the electrolyte by means of Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (FAAS), a new method has been successfully established to detect the Fe and Cr content in α-Zr solid solution of Zircaloy-4. The results show that the Fe and Cr content as well as ratio of Fe/Cr in α-Zr solid solution of Zircaloy-4 will vary with fabrication schedules. Finally, in conjunction with the previous reported corrosion test in superheated water and steam, a conclusion has been drawn that more Fe and Cr supersaturated in α-Zr solid solution plays an important role in corrosion resistance of Zircaloy-4
