Natural background radiation in The Netherlands. Pt. 1

Description
The level of the environmental background radiation is investigated. Therefore at about 1000 points equally partitioned over the Netherlands gamma exposure rates are determined. After corrections for cosmic radiation the values of the exposure rates are mapped out. The level of the gamma radiation originating from the earth's crust varies between 1.1 and 7.2 microRem/h. In comparing the radiation map of the Netherlands with the type of soil map it appears that large values are found in clay soils and small values in sandy soils. (Auth.)
