No every day case of flood damage - 100000 l of radioactive contaminated water
Description
On April 6, 1987, the cellars of the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the Free University of Berlin were flooded. Two of the rooms affected were decay stores for radioactively contaminated laboratory materials. There was a risk of contamination of the flood water with 3-H, C-14, P-32, S-35 and I-125. The method of cleaning up used by the fire brigade is portrayed, taking account of decontamination measures. (DG)

Am 6.4.1987 wurden Kellerraeume des Instituts fuer Molekularbiologie und Biochemie der FU Berlin ueberflutet. Von der Ueberflutung betroffen waren auch zwei Abklingraeume fuer radioaktiv kontaminierte Laborverbrauchsmaterialien. Es bestand die Gefahr der Kontamination des Wassers mit 3-H, C-14, P-32, S-35 und J-125. Der Ablauf der Entsorgung unter Einsatz der Feuerwehr wird unter Beachtung von Dekontaminationsmassnahmen geschildert. (DG)Additional details
