Analysis of trace amounts of rare earth elements in rocks
Description
The conventional laboratory methods for the determination of trace amounts of rare earth elements in rocks are compared. These include neutron activation analysis, X-ray fluorescence analysis, inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, d.c. arc plasma atomic emission spectrometry, and atomic absorption spectroscopy. It is concluded that inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry is best suited for geochemical analysis. (M.D.). 2 figs., 3 tabs
