Description
A first issue proposes a synthesis of data related to dosimetry, non-carcinogenic pathologies occurring on the short and long terms among survivors of the nuclear explosions of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and results of a follow-up study of a cohort of in-utero exposed people. It recalls some data related to the bombings, presents the medical follow-up of survivors and some of its results, reports dosimetric reconstructions, presents and comments non-carcinogenic effects (eye's lens cataract and opacification, cardiovascular diseases, effects on kidneys, immune and inflammatory effects, cytogenetic modifications, thyroid diseases, respiratory diseases, and others). Results obtained in relationship with in-utero exposure are presented and commented for microcephaly and mental retardation, growth, cancers, thyroid diseases, mortality, and cardiovascular risks. The second issue addresses cancers developed among survivors, effects on descendants, and the psychological and societal impact. More precisely, it comments the existence of leukaemias and solid cancers among survivors (haematologic malignancies, solid cancers, second cancer, projection of the radiological risk), comments the results of a study on progeny (in terms of cancers and other diseases), and briefly addresses the psychological impact.
