Description
The UP3 and UP2-800 industrial reprocessing facilities in La Hague have been in operation since 1989 and 1994 respectively and have successfully reprocessed till up to around 30.000 tUHM till 2014. The La Hague plant is authorized to reprocess used fuel with an initial enrichment up to 4,5% U235 and with an increasing burn-up which has reached more than 60.000 MWd/t. 2014 was an outstanding year for AREVA La Hague. In term of production, the plant has overtaken forecast results: 1.217 tons of used fuels have been processed, 1.100 tons of vitrified waste canisters have been produced, and 822 compacted waste canisters have been produced. The good execution of scheduled outages has been a major factor for achieving the industrial program successfully. The year 2014 saw various 'first time' maintenance operations with in particular the changing of the shear magazine in one of the UP3 facilities, a delicate intervention undertaken in a nuclear zone on one of the largest removable equipment
