Some features of cathode reduction of suspensions of metal oxides and halides
Creators
Description
Peculiarities of cathode decomposition of suspensions of metal oxides and halides, tungsten trioxide and mercury iodide, in particular, are considered. Strong cathode polarization is determined to be necessary to reduce essentially WO3 powder. WO3 catalytic effect on hydrogen reduction is observed. The process is linked with occurrence of suspension capillary adhesion to mercury drop surface in case of Hg2I2 and HgI2 reduction using mercury dripping cathode. The same results are obtained in case of investigation into behaviour of mercury iodides using mercury stationary and amalgamated disk electrodes. 37 refs.; 12 figs
