Total and elastic pp cross sections at RHIC

  • 1. Brookhaven National Lab., Upton, NY (United States)
  • 2. CEBAF, Newport News, VA (United States)

Description

The authors have examined the feasibility of studying elastic proton-proton (pp) scattering at √s = 500 GeV, in the small angle scattering hall at RHIC. The requirements for the intersection region and the detector are described. The lattice configuration and the angular coverage of the detector will allow the simultaneous study of all three regions that characterize elastic scattering, namely the Coulomb dominated region, the Coulomb-hadronic interference region and the hadronic dominated region
