Statistics on the use of radiation in Japan. 1994 ed.
Description
This booklet presents the statistical data on the establishments which have been permitted by the Director-General of the Science and Technology Agency to use radioisotopes and/or radiation generators, and the establishments that have reported to and have been accepted by the Director-General to use only sealed radioisotopes of less than 3.7GBq in all, as provided by the Law Concerning Prevention from Radiation Hazards due to Radioisotopes, etc. (Law No. 167, June 10, 1957). The present statistics do not include the hospitals and clinics that use, as far as radiation is concerned, only radiopharmaceuticals for their diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, because those pharmaceuticals are not regulated by the Law in question. For the same reason, the establishments that use X-ray diagnostic and therapeutic apparatus or X-ray nondestructive inspection apparatus and other generators which are not under the application of the Law are not included either. For summing up the quantities of radioisotopes used and radioactive waste collected for disposal, however, the radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic and therapeutic uses are included also. (J.P.N.)
