Shape transition in the hot rotating Se isotopes

Description

The study of structural changes of nuclei at high excitation energy and large angular momentum is a topic of current interest in nuclear structure physics. In addition to the shape changes with neutron and proton number, a nucleus that rotates very fast may experience considerable changes in its structure. The shape change in the nucleus mostly corresponds to the collective degrees of freedom (ε and γ). Calculations of excitation energy based on the statistical theory of hot rotating nuclei to probe the shape transition in the most neutron deficient Se isotopes such as 68Se, 70Se, 72Se, 74Se for an angular momentum range of 0ħ - 14ħ and a temperature range of 0.4 MeV – 1.0 MeV in steps of 0.1 MeV show a comparable results with the experimental data. A shape transition was found which is reflected in other thermodynamical parameters such as spin cut off parameter and rotational frequency with respect to angular momentum. A comparison of excitation energy of 74Se based on the statistical model with its experimental counterpart was also done in the form of an energy level diagram and a closeness of the theoretical and the experimental values for the same momenta was found.
