Description
Samples of 1 ml serum, doped with yttrium, were lyophilised for bromine determination by the PIXE method. Infinitely thick targets were made by pelletizing the resulting powder under a pressure of 4 T/cm2. The samples were irradiated with 2.5 MeV protons from a cyclotron. The calculated detection limit was 0.20 μg Br/ml. The biological standard reference material NBS-SRM 1577 (bovine liver) was analysed in order to assess the accuracy of the method. Good agreement with previously published values for this biostandard has been obtained. (author)
