Crystal structure and properties of RNi2Sn2 compounds

  • 1. L'vovskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (Ukrainian SSR)

Description

Crystal structure of KNi2Sn2 compounds where R-La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm is determined by X-ray diffraction method. This crystal structure reffers to the CeAl2Ga2 structural type (space group I4/mmm, Z=2). Magnetic susceptibility of compounds and electric resistance of LaNi2Sn2 and CeNi2Sn2 are studied. The CeNi2Sn2, PrNi2Sn2 and NdNi2Sn2 compounds are paramagnets, their susceptibility changes according to the Curie law, effective magnetic moments for Pr and Nd correspond to R3+ ions moments, and for Ce - to a variable valency. The LaNi2Sn2 compound is a Pauli paramagnet and SmNi2Sn2 susceptibility hardly changes with temperature
